CardioSmart Heart Explorer: Enhancing the Clinician-Patient Relationship
The CardioSmart Heart Explorer app by the American College of Cardiology is a valuable tool for clinicians looking to enhance their interactions with patients at the point of care. This free app is compatible with both the iPhone and iPad, making it accessible to a wide range of healthcare professionals.
The app features high-resolution cardiac graphics and animations, optimized for the iPad but also available for iPhone and iPod touch. Clinicians can use these visuals to review and discuss common heart problems and treatment options with their patients and caregivers. The app allows for a comprehensive exploration of the structure of the heart, with 9 basic layers of rotatable cardiac anatomy that can be swiped through. Each image can be rotated from an anterior to posterior view by dragging from left to right, and double-tapping returns the image to the anterior beating view.
In addition to the basic layers, the app provides additional layers of anterior and cross-sectional cardiac views. These views highlight normal and pathological functions in easy-to-understand, high-resolution 3-D and 2-D graphics. Clinicians can also access a media gallery within the app, which offers a scrollable list of helpful explanatory animations and interactive displays for further patient education.
Please note that this app is for evaluation purposes only and should not be used for clinical purposes. All support is provided on an as-is, as-available basis.
